How many maps come with Supreme Ruler 2010?
There are 45 maps covering the entire world allowing a different style of gameplay from different parts of the globe. There are also additional scenarios provided as part of our updates.

How many starting regions are there in the entire game?
There are over 200 playable starting regions in the 45 scenarios.

What is the difference between a scenario, campaign, mission?
A scenario is any map that you can play in Supreme Ruler 2010 and can be played as a single or multiplayer game.

A campaign is a string of scenarios, played in single player mode, where one scenario leads to another scenario upon a successful victory. Campaign victories will move you a higher level map where all regions are combined into a new region in the next map. An example is if you play a campaign game as the region of "Ontario" in the "Canada" scenario and you win you will play as the region of "Canada" in the "North America" scenario. You will also carry over game elements such as your units (with experience), your money, your debt, your social ratings, essentially everything except facilities you build are carried forward.

A mission is a special type of single player scenario. The mission designer decides the player's starting region and picks a special victory condition. There can also be a modified starting email and mission brief to instruct the player how to win the mission.

How many players are there on the world map?
The world map contains 9 regions to play from. These include North America, South America, Europe, Africa, The Middle East, India-Pakistan, Russia, South Asia and Oceania.
A new world map, titled World War III, was released in an update. This map includes 31 regions.

Can I play my country in Supreme Ruler?
Many countries as they exist today will appear in Supreme Ruler 2010 . Some countries are united with other courtiers and some countries are divided. In the France Scenario you can play as Portugal or as part of a divided Spain or as part of a divided France.

Why can't I get diplomatic exchanges to work with some regions?
Some regions that you will play against will not like your country. If this is the case it will be difficult to get regions to accept treaties and trades. These in game settings have been designed to be inline with current day relationships between countries modified only by our storyline. Some regions have a long history of dislike for other countries resulting in poor diplomatic ties. Read The Story So Far... to review the events that lead up to the year 2010.

Why does it seem that everyone attacks me when I attack another region?
Supreme Ruler 2010 uses a system for determining when it is more acceptable to attack another region. This is called the "belli rating" and is short for Causus Belli - which means "justification for war". In most strategy games the act of declaring war is not a big issue. In fact most wargames start with players at war and in a constant state of war. When you attack a region in Supreme Ruler 2010 without being justified in doing so this act will in turn give other regions more justification to attack your region. Since the world doesn't really like war you may find yourself in hot water if you don't have support behind you when you give the order to attack.

What things affect the ''belli rating''?
- Declaring war when you do not have 100% justification.
- Breaking treaties and alliances.
- Greatly increasing your military build capacity.
- Building up forces along your border.
Other factors affect the belli rating too. Play and you'll find out.

How is my region's state of war related to my Defcon Levels?
DEFCON Levels can only be changed within certain parameters. When actively at War with another region you are automatically at DEFCON Level 3 or higher (War sets your DEFCON to 3 automatically — you would have to manually increase this to Level 2 or Level 1 if you wanted the further improvements.) Signing a Ceasefire agreement will allow you to reduce your DEFCON to Level 4 should you so decide. You must at least be “Neutral” with all regions to stay at DEFCON 5. Similarly, if you are neutral with all other regions you can only elevate your DEFCON as high as Level 2 and NOT to Level 1.

How did my opponent get more units than his bases could normally produce?
- The World Market may sell units to regions.
- Regions can diplomatically trade/sell units to each other.
Both of these situations can result in more units than a region can produce themselves.
- Setting your DEFCON levels to 2 or 1 will also improve build speed levels, by 10% and 20%.

Why are my units moving on their own?
Unit initiative is set to move your units. Any setting greater than 0% will cause your military cabinet minister to issue orders and move your units to strategically defensive areas of your territory.

How do I group units?
You can group your units into numbered groups (0-9) by pressing CTRL+# on your keyboard. For further grouping hotkeys press F1 in-game for help and then review the hotkeys location in the second and third pages of this popup. Another way to group units is to select and adjust their groupings wherever you see the roman numerals I, II, III to X. This is a way to add one unit to multiple groups. Look for the number groupings in the unit popup (double click a unit in a list) and the unit list, press the hotkey ''U''.

Why did my treasury drop by Billions of dollars in one day?
Your cabinet minister may have repaid one of your outstanding bonds resulting in a large drop in your treasury. Your region may have purchased a large quantity of a resource. Check your trades for the previous day.

Does Supreme Ruler 2010 come in languages other than English?
For now Supreme Ruler 2010 is available in English only. We are working on building relationships with foreign distributors that will assist with translations. As additional language versions are made available we will modify this FAQ entry and let you know.

Why can't I find the unit I was building before?
The unit may have become obsolete because of tech year. There is generally a replacement unit available when this happens and if you still want to see and even build the obsolete unit you can adjust the game filters.

How can I find a particular unit on the map I am looking for?
By pressing ''U'' on your keyboard a popup containing all of your units is displayed. You can sort this list in the following ways:
- deployed, reserved, in construction
- land, sea, air.
To review missile units in the same way use the ''M' hotkey. In this popup you can sort your units by launch platform:
- all platforms, land, air, sea, sub, silo. Once you find the unit in the list, press the center-on button.

Do I have to pick the ministers I want each time I restart?
No. There is a way to save your game settings using the CTRL+S hotkey. This will open a popup allowing you to pick a name for the profile. When you want to switch between profiles or just reload one at the start of a game press CTRL+L and pick the saved profile you want to use. In your profile you will find that all game settings are saved including cabinet ministers and their assigned priorities.

Why can't I launch nukes?
If you are at the stage in a game where you want to engage your enemy in nuclear warfare and nukes don't seem to be launching you may need to go into your Rules of Engagement and 'allow nuke use'. This was designed to prevent players from accidentally firing a nuclear weapon.

At what level will one of my units die or be destroyed?
When unit strength goes below ''2'' or 20% the unit will die/be destroyed. The percentage is used for units with a default strength of ''1'' (mostly naval units, radar truck and command unit).

Why can't I find Supreme Ruler 2010 in my local software retail store?
As Supreme Ruler 2010 was released in North America in May 2005 you may not be able to find it in retail stores. If you live in Western Europe you may be able to find a copy from the summer 2006 release into France, Germany, Spain, and The United Kingdom. You can also purchase a boxed copy via worldwide shipping. And you can still purchase Supreme Ruler 2010 by digital download.

What are unit destacking rules?
When there are too many units in a hex the units will try to destack on their own after a short period of time. While in combat overstacked hexes take a defensive penalty.
Destack rules are as follows:
- under 7 units: no destack occurs.
- 8 or 9 units in a hex causes a destack order at day end
- 10+ before day end destack
Additional rule: if there are already 10 units on a base hex you will not be able to deploy more units until destack occurs. You can issue deploy orders for units that can't destack.

Are the personnel killed inside a base as it is damaged or destroyed?
No. The personnel in a base escape to safety as it is being damaged or destroyed and become part of your reserve pool.

Why does my opponents artillery battalion fire farther than mine if they are the same unit?
Some in-game technologies such as ERFB-BB and V-LAP extend the range of artillery pieces causing them to become more effective in battle.

Do artillery range extending techs have any effects other than extended range?
Ballistic artillery and MLRS range enhancement techs will be used automatically when targets are not in the range of standard munitions. Longer-range munitions have a higher goods cost and a longer reload time.
These techs are:
- ERFB-BB Ammunition: Extended Range Full Bore Base Bleed (ERFB-BB)
Provides Ballistic Artillery units with a longer-range ammunition option.
- ER-MLRS Missiles: Extended Range Multiple Launch Rocket System Munitions.
Provides Rocket Artillery units with a longer-range rocket option.
- V-LAP Artillery: Velocity: Enhanced Long-Range Artillery Projectile (V-LAP)
Provides Ballistic Artillery units with a longer-range ammunition option.
- GMLRS Missiles: Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System Munitions, incorporating GPS and other technologies.
Increases range and accuracy of MLRS Artillery units.
- Laser Guided Munitions: New technologies for Ballistic Artillery munitions to improve accuracy and range.
Provides Ballistic Artillery units with a longer-range ammunition option.

Does anything happen to 'in-production' military units that are placed 'on-hold'?
Units 'on-hold' or in an inactivated base will be shown in the queued list. Over time you will see these units start to ''deteriorate'' resulting in a loss of build progress.

Why are different unit and technology designs available in different regions?
Supreme Ruler 2010 is designed to make regions as realistic as possible. This is made possible by the use of region codes and tech levels.

Region Codes: Each region in a scenario is assigned one or more region codes by our map designers. These codes allow regions to research and build military units specific to these regions.

Tech Levels: Our map designers also assign a tech level to each region to represent a region's technical ability to improve its society and expand its military.

Here are a couple of examples:
Two regions with the same ''region codes'' and different ''tech levels'' may be able to research and build different items.
Two regions with the same ''tech levels'' but different ''region codes'' will be able to research the same technologies but not the same unit designs.

How can I obtain new unit designs and new technologies?
You can research and trade for them. Some technologies are not tradable. (these items will have a description showing them to be non-tradable). You can trade for money, resources, units, missiles, unit and missile designs, technologies and treaties. You may also be able to buy items from the world market. So keep your eye on your EMail inbox.

How can I improve my region's tech level?
Tech level can only be improved by spending on internal research. Hotkey ''R''. You can spend on tech level, research efficiency and technologies. Focussing your spending on any one area will reduce the time required in this area but shorten it in the other area.

How much should I spend on research?
Researching technologies will feel different between the regions you will play. 'Recommended Spending' on research will not exceed about 10% of total economy (GDP), even when the number of research centres and projects would ordinarily need more money spent. However, more research centres will increase the level of 'spending over recommended' that is allowed.

What affects how long it will take techs and unit designs to complete?
The amount of money you spend and how you allocate your spending will affect the speed of research. You can divide your spending among tech level, efficiency and technologies. The more items being researched at once will slow down completion times as the focus and attention of your research facilities will become divided. Focusing your research efforts on one item or on too many items may prove to reduce research completion times.

What demand does the production of finished goods have on other resources?
- 1 Tonne of Consumer Goods Requires: 1/2 Tonne Industrial Goods, 1/2 Tonne Metal Ore, 15 Megawatt/hrs Electricity
- 1 Tonne of Industrial Goods Requires: 1 Tonne Metal Ore, 15 Megawatt/hrs Electricity, 100 Barrels Oil, 1 Tonne Coal
- 1 Tonne of Military Goods Requires: 1/2 Tonne Industrial Goods, 1/2 Tonne Metal Ore, 15 Megawatt/hrs Electricity, 50 Barrels Oil

When I allow my cabinet minister to research anything (when I don't lock the department) are there certain technologies that they will never research?
Cabinet ministers will not research ICBM silo-launched missiles and will only research nuclear missiles when allowed under ROE(Rules of Engagement).
